Do you remember what happened on this day in history?

It was 12 years ago today that  50 million North Americans were left without power, some up to a couple of days before their power was  restored. It was considered one of the largest blackouts in the United States and Canada and was estimated to have had between a $7 and $14 billion impact to the economy.

That event sparked industrywide improvements to grid reliability, technology, coordination and processes  to reduce the likelihood of it occurring again.
