Hampton Roads, Va. (Virginia Beach–Norfolk–Newport News Metropolitan Area)

The Hampton Roads region of Virginia, also considered the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News metropolitan area, is connected to the high-voltage grid through Dominion Virginia Power, which was integrated into PJM’s operations in 2005.

The Hampton Roads region is made up of a number of counties and independent cities within the commonwealth, including its most populous city, Virginia Beach. Other cities include Chesapeake, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Williamsburg.

The region is known for having one of the world’s largest natural harbors as well as a significant military presence. The area also includes three historic colonial communities – Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg and Yorktown – that make up what is called the “Historic Triangle.”
