A new operating subsidiary, ITC Interconnection, will become operational on June 1, with interconnections to AEP and METC. The largest independent electricity transmission company in the country, ITC operates in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula and portions of Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. It is a transmission-only company based in Novi, Michigan. ITC owns regulated operating subsidiaries include ITC Transmission, Michigan Electric Transmission Company, ITC Midwest and ITC Great Plains.
On July 1, 2016, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) will also become operational. SMECO is a customer-owned electric cooperative providing electricity to more than 160,000 customers in southern Prince George’s County, Charles County, St. Mary’s County, and all but the northeast portion of Calvert County, Maryland.
