Today, July 29, the PJM Board of Managers approved a project to resolve operational performance issues around the Artificial Island area and also provide transmission support for the sub-region.
The solution calls for LS Power to build a 230 kilovolt line under the Delaware River and calls for Public Service Electric & Gas and Pepco Holdings Inc. to expand transmission facilities.
The Board issued a statement following its decision which acknowledges the concerns raised by Delaware Governor Jack Markell and others about the cost allocation for the project. The Board commits to supporting its technical analysis of the decision through the Artificial Island Project Recommendation White Paper.
With the Board’s authorization of the project, the transmission companies will begin the siting and approval process with other state and regulatory agencies. The project is expected to be completed by 2019.
