On Monday, PJM participated in a security exercise with the Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security.
The Energy Sector Tabletop Exercise included a broad range of participants, including representatives from local, state and federal entities, police and emergency personnel as well as PJM’s Incident Response Team.
Tabletop exercises allow emergency scenarios to be presented and constructive discussion to take place among the participants. The emphasis is the coordination, information sharing, planning and interoperability among agencies and organizations for security events in the workplace.
PJM frequently participates in such drills, which cover a number of scenarios including homegrown violence, active shooters and workplace violence.
It was the second preparedness-related activity involving PJM in a 10-day stretch. On Dec. 13, PJM hosted to a conference for the Electric Infrastructure Security Council’s Executive Security Council.
That semiannual meeting brought together representatives from utilities, grid operators, their government partners and support organizations to focus on collaboration to restore critical infrastructure in response to a Black Sky Event.
In addition, PJM participates in the North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s biennial industry-wide GridEx drills. PJM will shortly discuss participation in the November 2017 GridEx IV at stakeholder meetings.
