PJM is monitoring and preparing for the anticipated storm, which was a Category 4 hurricane as of Friday morning.
PJM’s Incident Response Team has been monitoring the storm and PJM has been working with transmission and generation owners in the path of the storm to postpone or end transmission and generation maintenance projects and outages.
In addition, PJM performed “worst case” contingency planning and system analysis above and beyond normal system operations planning. This rigorous analysis looks at the concurrent loss of multiple grid facilities that are in the potential path of the storm. This analysis allows PJM to have several operating plans ready for system dispatchers in the event of major storm damage.
PJM has ensured the channels of communication are open between with its members, local and state governmental officials and the news media.
