PJM has issued Hot Weather Alerts for its Mid-Atlantic and Southern regions for July 26 and 27, as well as a Hot Weather Alert for the entire PJM region for July 28 as hot weather continues.
A Hot Weather Alert is a routine procedure PJM issues ahead of forecasted 90-plus-degree weather and/or high humidity to prepare transmission and generation personnel and facilities for expected increases in electricity demand, or load.
Additionally, PJM issued a generator maintenance outage recall on July 18, requesting for all maintenance outages to be returned to service by July 23 in order to increase the amount of generation available to meet customer demand. The generator maintenance outage recall is expected to remain in place through the middle of next week when temperatures are projected to moderate.
A Hot Weather Alert, Maximum Generation Alert and Load Management Alert are currently in effect for the entire region PJM serves for July 25.
As of noon on July 25, PJM expects to serve the following peak loads:
- 152,000 MW on July 25
- 140,000 MW on July 26
- 137,000 MW on July 27
- 154,000 MW on July 28
PJM’s Southern Region is made up of the Dominion transmission zone. The Mid-Atlantic Region is made up of the following transmission zones:
