New Learning Center Page Explains How PJM Forecasts Electricity Demand

1701

Predicting the demand for electricity helps ensure that consumers have a reliable supply of power today and in the years ahead. Making these predictions – called load forecasting – is a job PJM does routinely.

PJM has launched a new page on its Learning Center that helps explain the concept of load forecasting, which is crucial in helping PJM make decisions about how to operate the bulk electric system and plan for upgrades. Looking at weather, economic trends, types of generation and more, load forecasting is complex, dynamic and an important part of PJM’s mission to supply reliable electricity to the 65 million people in the PJM region.

The Learning Center at learn.pjm.com is a 101-level education resource dedicated to explaining, in simple terms, the energy industry and PJM’s role in keeping the power flowing.
