PJM President and CEO Andy Ott appeared on This Week in Pennsylvania with host Dennis Owens over the weekend to discuss the benefits of wholesale electricity markets and how the electrical grid performed during the Jan. 29 – Feb. 1 cold snap.
Ott highlighted how PJM prepares for cold weather by planning and communicating with generators and pipeline operators to meet the increased need for electricity. He also spoke about the lessons PJM learned from the 2014 Polar Vortex.
Ott described how PJM markets work to supply electricity to homes and businesses from a variety of resources.
“We have two metrics: reliability and lowest cost. We look at the resources that can get on, be the most reliable and the cheapest,” Ott said.
The program aired Feb. 3 on abc27 in Harrisburg, and on a number of other local stations throughout Pennsylvania. Watch Ott’s segment below or see the entire program on abc27’s website.
