PJM conducted its Winter Emergency Operations Drill with its members on Nov. 14.
The closely coordinated activity allowed participants opportunities to practice emergency procedures (PDF) and policies to prepare for winter operations. PJM also holds a similar drill ahead of each summer season.
PJM appreciates the participation of members in these drills, which are one of a suite of emergency preparedness practices by PJM and its stakeholders toward readiness for real events ahead of the winter and summer, when electricity use is at its highest.
PJM and its members expect to have about 179,800 MW of resources to meet forecasted peak demand this winter of approximately 141,200 MW, in addition to an expected average of 5,500 MW of power to be exported to neighboring grid operators.
